India coronavirus count, April 30: Cases surge past 33,000, deaths at 1,074

In its daily morning update today, the Union Health ministry put the total number of coronavirus cases in India at 33,050 and the death toll at 1,074. It added that 8,325 people have so far recovered from the infection.

As of yesterday, the number of hotspot districts came down to 129 from 170 a fortnight ago. During the same period, however, the number of green zones (infection-free districts) also came down from 325 to 307.

The number of orange zones (non-hotspot districts), in the meantime, went up from 207 to 297.

The new numbers follow clear indications given by the government that the ongoing national lockdown would be extended beyond May 3 but with “considerable relaxations” to people and services in “many districts”.
