Delhi Police DCP North Monika Bhardwaj tests positive for coronavirus

Another high-ranking official in the Delhi Police has been detected to be coronavirus positive.

DCP North Monika Bhardwaj tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.

The police officer had not been keeping well and decided to get tested for the viral infection. She is currently in home quarantine and three members of her personal staff have also been sent into quarantine.

DCP Bhardwaj hit headlines last year in November when a clash took place between police and lawyers at Delhi’s Tis Hazari court.

A video from the November 2 incident showed Bhardwaj appealing for peace along with her team before a group of lawyers mobbed them and chased them away from the scene.

Bhardwaj is the second DCP to test coronavirus positive in Delhi. Earlier, an additional DCP posted in Shahdara was also found to be coronavirus positive.

So far, around 500 Delhi Police personnel have contracted coronavirus. Many of them have recovered too. One cop has died of Covid-19 in the national capital.

The coronavirus death toll in Delhi climbed to 303, while 792 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported on Wednesday, the highest single-day spike in the city.
