The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered an FIR against Congress leaders for violating lockdown restrictions by moving buses arranged to transport the migrants to Noida.
Amid a war of letters between the Uttar Pradesh government and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over buses for migrants, the Congress leaders started moving 100 buses to Noida late Tuesday night.
These buses were, however, stopped by the police on Wednesday morning and as many as 20 Congress leaders booked for violating lockdown. Among those booked by the UP Police is the state Congress vice president Pankaj Malik.
The police also seized two buses moved by the Congress in Noida for ferrying migrants to their home states. Sources in the police said of 100 buses, fitness certificate of two vehicles were found to have expired in April 2, 2019.
Transport vehicles are likely to be given a green signal after all checks are completed by the police.Meanwhile, Congress hit out at the Yogi Adityanath government and accused it of politicising the issue of moving migrants back to their native places.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhavi said, “It is surprising the way Ajay Bisht govt is behaving. More than 500 buses are stuck at Agra border for the past six days they are making us go round and round…where is the politics in this…PG [Priyanka Gandhi] has said she is ok even if BJP wants to put its flag on these buses.”
“We are waiting till 4 pm. If the govt has any respect for the mandate it has, it should allow the buses for the thousands of migrant labourers,” the Congress leader said.
