Sri Lanka recall Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews for first New Zealand Test

Sri Lanka will face New Zealand in the first Test game of the two-match series at Galle Cricket Stadium from August 14 to 18.

 Former captain Dinesh Chandimal has been named in the 15-men Sri Lanka squad for the first Test against New Zealand in Galle from August 14. Chandimal will be returning to the Test side after being out of action for more than 6 months.Chandimal was omitted from the South Africa series in February after his scores of 5, 0, 15, and 4 in Sri Lanka’s two Test defeats against Australia. The batsman was also not concidered for the World Cup 2019.

The selectors have also named Angelo Mathews in the final squad from the preliminary squad of 22 players. Mathews had earlier missed the South Africa Test series due to hamstring injury. However, the former captain was part of the World Cup 2019, where he had hit a century against India after poor show in first half of the tournament.

Sri Lanka recently white-washed Bangladesh in ODI series by 3-0 with Mathews being awarded the man of the series.

The players excluded from the initial lists are Dilruwan Perera, Angelo Perera, Danushka Gunathilaka, Shehan Jayasuriya, Chamika Karunaratne, Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando.
