Sensex rises over 500 points; Nifty above 8,450

NEW DELHI: Equity indices jumped in early trade on Tuesday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over 500 points and broader NSE Nifty trading above the 8,450-levels.

Sensex surged 516 points or 1.82 per cent to 28,957; while Nifty moved 200 points or 2.41 per cent up to 8,481.
Top gainers in the BSE pack included Tata Steel, Axis Bank, PowerGrid, Reliance Industries, HDFC and Axis Bank with their stocks rising as much as 3.88 per cent.
On NSE, sub-indices Nifty Metal and Pharma gained as much as 3.17 per cent.
Sensex had crashed over 1,375 points on Monday; while Nifty fell 379 points to close at 8,281.10.

Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in the capital market, as they purchased equity shares worth Rs 355.78 crore on Friday, according to provisional exchange data.
On the other hand, Asian shares managed a tentative rally on Tuesday as factory data from China held out the hope of a rebound in activity even as other countries across the globe all but shut down.
