Rajasthan SHO commits suicide in Churu, BJP seeks independent probe

The alleged suicide by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajgarh police station in Rajasthan’s Churu district has triggered demands from the BJP for an independent probe claiming that local politicians were responsible for the suicide.

SHO Vishnu Dutt Vishnoi allegedly committed suicide on Friday following which an FIR for abetment to suicide was registered by the police against unknown persons. His family also demanded a CBI inquiry in the case.

Vishnoi, who was investigating a murder that had taken place at 7 pm on Friday, received a telephone call that lasted more than 30 minutes. He returned to his quarter around 2 am and his body was found early Saturday morning.

His body was reportedly taken down after 12 hours on the pretext that government had ordered a CID inquiry and only investigating officers concerned were supposed to take it down.

SUICIDE NOTES RECOVERED

Police said they recovered two suicide notes. In one of the two suicide notes, addressed to his father, the police inspector sought apology for his action, and in the other, addressed to Churu SP Tejsavani Gautam, Vishnoi said he was not a coward but pressure had taken a toll of him. None of the two letters, however, mentioned names of those pressuring him.

Vishnoi was brought to Rajgarh police station in Sadulpur assembly constituency in Churu district last year to curb the rising number of murders. He was considered an efficient, hardworking officer but had been under pressure for some time.

Vishnoi had reportedly also requested the authorities for his transfer a few months back. A day before his alleged suicide, the inspector told his friend Goverdhan Singh, an RTI-activist-turned-lawyer in Jaipur, about his intention to take the VRS citing bad politics. He, however, but did not elaborate.
