Rajasthan govt orders Covid-19 checks for pregnant women in hotspots, UP resumes community camps

The Rajasthan government has ordered that Covid-19 tests be done on all pregnant women who are due for delivery within 15 days and live in the hotspot areas of the state.

The Uttar Pradesh government, meanwhile, has resumed community camp check-ups on pregnant women and home visits by ASHA (accredited social health activist) workers to check on new-borns and their immunisation in the green zones of the state, after a gap of almost a month.

In Rajasthan, as per an order issued on Tuesday by additional chief secretary (health) RK Singh, deliveries of all pregnant women who are Covid-positive, suspected to be positive or show influenza-like symptoms must be in the hospitals designated to treat the coronavirus infection.

The tests on women from hotspot containment zones, whose due date is within 15 days, should be done in the hospitals where they would get admitted for delivery, it said.

The Rajasthan government said testing for pregnant women living in hotspots was required to give Covid-positive patients the necessary medical care during delivery. “For negative Covid-19 pregnant women, all primary health care centres, community health centres and medical colleges and district hospitals will offer services…,” the order says. According to it, no hospital would deny emergency delivery services and private hospitals must remain open for patients who opt for them. If a positive patient is found later, such hospitals should disinfect their premises before resuming operations.

In UP, principal secretary (health) Amit Mohan Prasad on Tuesday ordered the resumption of community camp activity for the check-ups of pregnant women in the green zone districts on earmarked days and home visits by ASHA workers. The community camps would not restart till the situation improves in the 18 red zone districts and in urban areas, and in the blocks of 40 districts in the orange zone which have reported cases.
