Parliament work set to begin after lockdown, key meeting on June 3

The parliament is all set to commence work with a key panel meeting on June 3. It will be the first time legislators will meet in parliament after the lockdown was announced more than two months ago.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry will meet in Parliament House on June 3 and a meeting will be held with all attending members. It may be noted that the meeting will not be held via video conferencing.

Chairman of the Standing Committee for Home Affairs Anand Sharma has conveyed members regarding the meeting and a message has been sent to them specifying the date, agenda and time of the meeting.

Union Home Secretary will brief the committee on the situation arising out of lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak and its handling by the Home Ministry.

The ministry officials are expected to face a barrage of questions on the methodology followed while deciding the four phases of lockdown, the guidelines issued by the home ministry and easing of restrictions.

The committee meeting, in fact, would be held right after the central government and states would decide whether to impose lockdown 5.0 after May 31.

Speaking to India Today TV, a senior opposition party leader, who is the member of the committee, said, “We will demand answers from the govt on the migrants’ issue. The home ministry which acts as the nodal agency between Centre and the states was issuing guidelines. Why did the guidelines fail to anticipate and address the crisis faces by almost 8 crore migrant workers all over the country.”
