Kamal Nath on power loss in MP: Was aware of Scindia’s plans, forced to believe otherwise by Digvijaya

First time since his fall from power, former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath has said that he could not save his government despite having information about the moves being played by the Jyotiraditya Scindia and BJP because he was led into a false belief by Digvijaya Singh that certain MLAs would never leave.

“It was not done purposefully but probably because of a lack of understanding of the situation. Digvijaya Singh felt that certain MLAs who were talking to him thrice a day would never go away but they did,” Kamal Nath said in an exclusive conversation with India Today TV at his residence in Bhopal on Friday.

“As far as Scindia is concerned, I knew that he was in touch with the BJP since July after he lost the Lok Sabha elections. He could never digest the fact that he lost the Lok Sabha election by over one lakh votes and that too to someone who was an ordinary Congress worker before the BJP picked him up,” said the veteran Congress leader.

“Scindia was in touch with the BJP after his defeat but the state unit of their party never wanted him but they eventually took him because the BJP’s top leadership wanted the second Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh at any cost,” said Kamal Nath, who appeared to be still smarting over the humiliation forced down his throat by the Scindia-BJP combine.

On the chances of the Congress making a comeback in the by-elections, Kamal Nath said, “It’s a game of numbers. Right now we have 92 MLAs and they have 107. By-elections are to be held for 24 seats so we have to win least 15 of them to be at par with the BJP and then the rest 7 that includes 4 Independents, will also come into play. The conditions right now are such that we will win more than 15 seats. Scindia and Shivraj will not be able to campaign for these elections.”
