Preparations are on for the Indian Army to take control of the Narela quarantine facility in Delhi acting on requests to handle medical screening at the camp.

This will be the first civilian set up for Covid-19 to be under military control.

Currently, there are four doctors and eight paramedics along with armed security at the camp.

Sources said it is normal protocol to have armed troops for security wherever there is any deployment.

The strength of doctors, nursing staff and security teams is likely to increase.

There was an additional team sent but that was a temporary deployment and the numbers will gradually increase, sources added.

Consequent to the request to take over the Medical Screening setup at Narela Camp, additional Army medical staff is currently working along with civil medical professionals as part of the process of taking over the screening duties, said an army source.

Sources said, in the interest of the smooth running of the facility, it is being ensured that the takeover process will be gradual.

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat had also visited the Narela facility last week to review the situation as the army medical team was deployed.

Among many others undergoing quarantine, members of the Tablighi Jamat who attended the gathering in Nizamuddin are also housed here.
