Delhi waiver of water dues | Explained

CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced a complete waiver of water arrears for people living in some colonies.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced a complete waiver of water arrears for people living in colonies categorised as E, F, G and H. Consumers of the other four categories (A-D) will get a rebate ranging from 25-75 per cent on their long-pending dues.

Delhi’s colonies are categorised A to H based on circle rates which fix the stamp duty for registering properties.

Colonies in the A to D categories are considered as posh and upper middle class. E to H categories house middle- and lower-middle-class families. There are also unauthorized colonies here.

‘A’ category includes neighbourhoods such as Maharani Bagh, Chanakyapuri, Sunder Nagar, Shanti Niketan and Golf Links among others. A number of colonies in South Delhi such as GK, Anand Lok, Green Park, Haus Khas and Safdarganj Enclave fall under the B category.

For A and B category colonies, 25 per cent rebate will be given on their principal arrears while in the C category colonies the waiver will 50 per cent.

Alaknanda, CR Park, Civil Lines, Lajpat Nagar and Punjabi Bagh are some of the area that fall in the C category.

In ‘D’ category colonies Mayur Vihar, Rajinder Nagar, IP Extension, Dwarka and Karol Bagh among others — people will get a waiver of 75 per cent on their principal pending arrears.

Most of the unauthorized colonies which comes under E, F, G and H categories will get 100 percent waiver on principle amount on arrears.
