BMC to identify empty places in Mumbai to turn them into quarantine rooms

Due to increasing number of novel coronavirus cases in Maharashtra’s Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made a decision to identify empty spaces and shift some people, vulnerable to contracting the virus, there.

The BMC will identify empty places like building, banquet halls/marriage halls, Gymkhana (clubs) among others.

BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi issed the order for work to be carried out as soon as possible.

The BMC found high risk and low risk people, who came in contact with a novel coronavirus positive person, living in small houses or dense areas in some localities. These people are vulnerable to contracting the novel coronavirus.

These people will now be sheltered in the empty spaces the BMC has identified.

The ward officers of all areas in Mumbai are authorised to requisition the empty residential buildings, lodges, hotels, dharmashalas, clubs, exhibition centres, colleges, hostels, dormitories, residential cruise, ships, marriage halls, banquet halls, institutions, etc., with immediate effect.

The ward officer will use these vacant rooms for quarantine of people who were in contact with a Covid-19 positive patient and are not symptomatic.

Ward officers will provide for food and basic arrangements at these places.

Owners will be issued payments for the use of these places.

The empowered officer may initiate action under the Section 188 of Indian Penal Code (48 of 1860) against the person who refuses to comply with above directives in toto and respective Sr PI in their wards will provide all the legal help to get these orders implemented with immediate effect.
