Bhopal: Detergent found in milk samples, FIR against dairy owner

An FIR has been lodged against the owner of a Bhopal-based dairy plant owner after detergent was found in the milk supplied by him.

In an ongoing operation on food adulteration, the Madhya Pradesh Food and Drug Administration department has registered an FIR against the owner of a Bhopal-based dairy plant owner after detergent was found in the milk supplied by him.

The FIR has been registered against Ish Arora, owner of Rajhans dairy plant in the Govindpura area of Bhopal. The plant supplies around 20,000 litres of milk under the brand name of Khajuraho in the state capital, Food and Drug Administration department officials said.

FDA officials had raided the Govindpura dairy plant on July 25 and sent the samples of milk and other products for testing in the state lab.

The report from the state lab came on Monday and confirmed the presence of detergent in the samples that were collected, a food department official said.

The department has now ordered the immediate closure of the dairy apart from registering an FIR against the owner of the unit, an official said.

“It is for the first time that detergent has been found in milk samples collected from the state capital. Before this, traces of urea were found. Detergent, that can cause food poisoning and gastrointestinal complications, has been found for the first time. Other chemicals like sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate and ammonium sulphate, that can cause heart problems, have also been found in the collected milk samples,” an official said.

On July 25 the FDA had also collected samples from the Sanchi milk dairy, that supplies bulk of the milk consumed in Bhopal, but no adulteration was found in the same.

The FDA department has raided milk processing units across the state in the past one month and recommended action against those found adulterating. The state government while following up on the FDA action has already initiated National Security Act proceedings against eight such accused across the state.

State chief secretary SR Mohanty has issued orders to all district collectors to take strictest possible action against those found endangering lives of the common people.
