Sourav Ganguly ready to offer Eden Gardens for quarantine facility: Will do anything that is need of the hour

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said he was ready to offer the Eden Gardens indoor facility and the players dormitory to the West Bengal government in order to be used as quarantine facilities in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak that has infected more than 500 people in the country and has led to more than 10 deaths.

“If government asks us, we will certainly hand over the facility. Anything that is need of the hour, we will do it. There is absolutely no problem,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.

Earlier, the Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) had also offered the dormitory in its Tutipet campus as a quarantine facility for coronavirus patients in Puducherry.

After the number of coronavirus cases went past 500 in India, prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the country in an attempt to prevent the spread of the virus and bring the situation under control.

Prior to this, when the West Bengal government ordered a lockdown in the state in view of the threat of the coronavirus outbreak, Ganguly took to Twitter to say that the empty roads in his home city Kolkata, are the kind of scenes he never thought he would witness in his lifetime.

“Never thought would see my city like this .. stay safe .. this will change soon for the better …love and affection to all…,” Ganguly posted on his Twitter page alongside images of deserted roads.The Covid-19 death toll in India currently stands at 10 with more than 580 confirmed cases of the infection. Maharashtra tops the list of states with the most number of confirmed cases and deaths.

The global death toll from the novel coronavirus has crossed the 18,000 mark. More than 422,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in 168 countries/regions across the globe. China and Italy are the two worst-hit countries by the virus.
