Police, fire dept in Madhya Pradesh town blow sirens to scare away locust swarms: Watch

The district administration in Panna in Madhya Pradesh has taken to a unique measure to fend off the huge locust swarms invading farm lands. The district administration has started using blaring sirens to scare locusts away.

In a video on ANI, police vans, fire trucks and other vehicles are seen roaming around the town blowing sirens to scare away the locust swarms.

Panna agriculture officer said, “The locusts rested in Panna Tiger Reserve yesterday where they feasted upon wild plants and trees. This saved the loss of agricultural crops here. The way to prevent them from damaging crops is to create loud noises or to spray insecticides.”Amidst a wave of locust swarms sweeping across northern India, the government has stepped up control operations in the affected states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Locust swarms covered 20 districts of Rajasthan over the past weeks and moved into Madhya Pradesh. After affecting several parts of the state, now these swarms are entering Uttar Pradesh, where the authorities have issued a warning for 11 districts.
