Lving through a pandemic has prompted top cops in Kerala to re-look at work-conditions of the state police force, who are at the forefront in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
The new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) says policemen should be encouraged to use “speaker mode” as much as possible while using mobile phones. Care should be taken to properly sanitise any new item purchased or brought to the premises and any such item should not be used immediately, reads the SOP.
Interestingly, at a time when police personnel across the country have been over-stretched for the past two months, the SOP says that Kerala Police personnel should be given adequate rest and time to sleep.
Personal Affects
Officers should be instructed to avoid all kinds of accessories, including jewelry (necklace/earrings/bangles) that can act as carriers of the infection.
In addition, policemen have been asked to wear rubber shoes, gumboots, or canvas shoes when they are on field duty since these can be washed easily. Cops in Kerala have also been asked to avoid wearing caps when they wear face shields.
