Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, said it will recall 1,279 units of new Swift and new Dzire cars to check for a defect in the airbag system.
These vehicles were manufactured between 7th May 2018 and 5th July 2018, the company added.
The suspected defect is in the Airbag Controller Unit. The company said the recall is a ‘global’ one, but did not say which countries will see the exercise.
Out of the 1279 vehicles being recalled, 566 are Swift units and 713 are Dzires.
It urged buyers to cooperate, as not doing so could create safety problems.
“Starting 25 th July 2018 owners of the vehicles included in this recall campaign will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers for inspection and replacement of the faulty part free of cost,” it said.
Customers of new Swift and new Dzire can visit the company’s website www.marutisuzuki.com and fill in the chassis number, it added.
The chasis number will be in the format of MBH or MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number, it said.
It can be found on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice as well as registration documents.
They can also drive down to any Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to check for same, it added.
The company did not clarify how much time would be taken in the rectification.
The new Swift and Dzire models are the highest selling cars in India, and are estimate to sell around 25,000 units per month between them.
