Jhye Richardson, the promising pacer, has joined Australia’s National Performance Squad that will tour India in August. He will replace his WACA pace colleague, Aaron Hardie.
The pacer, who made his Test debut versus Sri Lanka in Brisbane, earlier in the year, sustained a shoulder injury while fielding in the ODI rubber against Pakistan in March 2019. As a result of the injury, he couldn’t participate in the World Cup. However, after going through a rehabilitation programme, he has been added to the squad.
The young pacer is set for a stint at the MRF Pace Foundation, which is helmed by Australia’s great fast bowler Glenn McGrath. He may also play in NPS’ T20 and 50-over games versus the MRF Academy. The squad is scheduled to arrive in India on August 10.
“It is wonderful to have the quality of someone like Jhye on this tour,” Pathways Manager Graham Manou said. “The tour affords Jhye the opportunity to further hone his skills in subcontinent conditions under the watchful eye of Glenn McGrath and (NPS Head Coach) Chris Rogers. It also provides an opportunity for the younger players to work alongside Jhye. It will present them with a unique perspective of what it takes to be an international player and the discipline required to bounce back from a significant injury,” he added.
