Fog delays 11 Delhi-bound trains, air quality remains severe

Although there has been a gradual rise in mercury level in Delhi-NCR over the past couple of days, there has been no improvement in early-morning visibility.

On Sunday, low visibility due to foggy weather condition had delayed over 29 flights and led to the cancellation of 25 long-distance trains.

In its latest bulletin, the weather department has predicted rain and thunder shower across many places in North India including Delhi. Early-morning fog also prevailed across Tripura, Bengaluru, Andhra Pradesh, and several other states.

“An intense western disturbance along with induced cyclonic circulation is very likely to continue to affect Western Himalayan region mainly during the next three days and plains of northwest India from yesterday,” said India Meteorological Department.

“Under its influence, widespread rain/snow is very likely over Western Himalayan region during the same period, with isolated heavy to very heavy snowfall during January 21 and 22 over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand,” it added.

Temperatures may drop as strong winds reaching speeds up to 40 km/hr are expected in parts of North India including Delhi-NCR.
