FM’s announcement on Mudra loan will help weavers: Smriti Irani at e-Agenda Aaj Tak

Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday said the recent announcements made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman are set to benefit thousands of weavers in the country.

She said, “Even before Covid-19 and the lockdown, we saw that weavers who availed Mudra loans were able to increase their earnings by nearly 50 per cent. With the fresh announcements on shishu Mudra loans, more weavers are set to be benefitted.”

Smriti Irani was speaking during a session at E-Agenda Aaj Tak.

Speaking about the government’s new slogan of making India a self-reliant economy, she said so far India was focused on assembling products manufactured by other countries. “But now we are aiming at manufacturing them ourselves and assembling them in India itself.”

Smriti Irani said India was not making any PPE kits prior to the lockdown. “But in this short span we have been able to set-up an industry that is producing nearly 2 lakh PPE kits every day. If we could set up such a large industry of PPE and masks during a strict lockdown, we can do better hereafter,”
