The Ministry of Railways planned to run 125 Shramik Special trains on May 25, carrying migrant labourers, students and tourists stranded in Maharashtra to their home states.
Hours before these trains were to depart, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray claimed that the Railways was not doing enough to fulfil the state’s demand of special trains.
On the afternoon of May 24, as Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray took to Facebook to address the people, he tried to put blame on the Railways for the mess.

CM Thackeray claimed that against the Maharashtra government’s demand of an average 80 trains daily, only 35 to 40 trains were being made available. The number of trains from the state may rise if the Railways help the government, the Maharashtra CM said.
Uddhav Thackeray’s Facebook address left Railways Minister Piyush Goyal fuming.
In a series of 12 tweets till 2 am, the Railways Minister repeatedly asked the Maharashtra government to submit the list of passengers that are to be ferried to their home states as per the procedure.
“Where is the list of 125 trains from Maharashtra? As of 2 am, received a list of only 46 trains of which five are to West Bengal and Odisha which cannot operate due to cyclone Amphan. We are notifying only 41 trains for today despite being prepared for 125,” Piyush Goyal wrote his last tweet at 2 am.
