The Delhi Police has said they have arrested a man who posed as a government official to evade the lockdown in the national capital imposed to curtail the spread of novel coronavirus.
On April 3 as the police carried out screening to ensure that the lockdown orders were being followed, a Swift Dzire car, with the Government of India sign, was intercepted near the Anand Vihar ISBT in the east part of Delhi.
As the cops asked the man to furnish his curfew pass, he showed them a identity card bearing the name Suraj Singh Bisht. As per the identity card, by the government of India, Bisht’s designation was mentioned as assistant commissioner.
The identity card, however, was a scanned copy, police said and so the man was asked to show some other identity proof. He furnished a driving licence in the name of Suraj Singh Bisht, police said, and added that the alert cop realised that the date of birth was different to that on the identity card.
When the man was confronted, police said that he confessed to have forged the identity card showing him as a government official. He told the police that he obtained it after scanning an original identity card.
He also reportedly confessed to the police that he had been using this forged identity card to cross toll plazas and was now using it to roam freely during lockdown. The police said the accused is a private driver by profession and presently working with a government official.
