Coronavirus: India surpasses China’s tally with nearly 86,000 total cases

Just two days ahead of Lockdown 4.0, India’s tally of confirmed novel coronavirus cases crossed 85,000-mark, surpassing China’s count of 82,933 confirmed cases.

According to the latest health ministry data released Saturday morning, Indian recorded 3,970 new cases on Friday, taking the total number of the novel coronavirus cases to 85,940 from 81,970 earlier. There are 53,035 active cases in the country as of now, while 30,152 patients have been cured and discharged.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the infection has mounted to 2,752.

On Friday, Maharashtra reported 1,576 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to 21,467. The fatalities due to Covid-19 mounted to 1,068 as 49 more deaths were reported.

Mumbai remains the worst-hit city with 933 new patients being detected on Friday. The number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai has now touched 17,512 and death toll increased to 655 with 34 more deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had said.

In Uttar Pradesh, 159 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, bringing the number of cases to 4,057. A maximum of 794 cases has been reported in Agra, followed by 312 in Kanpur, 295 in Meerut, 276 in Lucknow, 253 in Noida and 209 in Saharanpur according to the information provided by the state health department.
