Colour-coded movement passes, fine on lockdown violation: TN govt’s new Covid-19 action plan

The Tamil Nadu government has come up with colour-coded movement passes that will allow inter-district, intra-district and inter-state movement of people. The e-passes will be colour-coded so that it is easier to identify the kind of travel a pass-holder is going carry out.

The state government has launched an online portal to help people apply for these e-passes that will help in inter-district, intradistrict movement of people and will also help people to move to other states.

The online portal can be accessed on mobile phones and laptops which will help people avoid the long queues outside government offices.

So far, people in the state have been meeting district authorities to seek vehicle passes for inter and intra-state movement. With the state having a very high number of Covid-19 cases, the Tamil Nadu government has been trying to use various strategies to ensure containment of the virus.

To make the process even easier, SMS notifications, e-pass downloading option, QR code-based verification, call centre support, free of cost e-seva support will be available for the users.

The e-passes will also have a cut off date which will require individuals to get them issued again once the validity of an existing one expires.

The passes will be issued following strict laws. The state government, in its latest order, has given a detailed description of the steps that need to be followed by individuals to get the passes.

Movement passes will be issued to individual allowing them to attend weddings of family members, funerals of close relatives and also for medical emergencies. Passes will also be provided to skilled service providers. Selective industries too will be issued passes. The details of the industries that can avail movement passes will be available in the Collector’s dashboard.
