BSNL orders compulsory retirement for Kerala activist Rehana Fathima over Sabarimala incident

Kerala activist Rehana Fathima has been asked to take compulsory retirement from BSNL for attempting to enter Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala.

The order by BSNL said her attempt to enter Sabarimala temple has “spoiled the reputation” of the company among customers and asked her to take compulsory retirement.

The company claimed that Fathima’s acts were “subversive of discipline and amount to misconduct”.

BSNL also mentioned the her “intentional” act of outraging religious feelings of devotees has also tarnished the reputation of the company.

She had been suspended from service following her arrest in November 2018 over Facebook posts.

Fathima, who is a technician with the state-run communications company, said she will explore legal remedies against the order sent by her employer.

The controversy had erupted in Kerala after Fathima made an attempt to enter the Sabarimala temple when it was opened for monthly puja in October 2018 following the Supreme Court order allowing entry of women in the age group of 10-50.
