BJP’s OBC meet to begin in Patna today, all eyes on Mahagathbandhan vote bank

After wooing upper caste voters by bringing a law to provide 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker section amongst the forward caste, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now eyeing to make inroads into the OBC vote bank of the Mahagathbandhan ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The party has organised a two-day national convention of its OBC morcha in Bihar’s Patna which will brainstorm the strategy to reach out to the OBC vote bank across the country.

The OBC morcha national convention was scheduled to be kick-started by Union Home Minister and senior leader Rajnath Singh on Friday. The closing session is scheduled to be addressed by BJP chief Amit Shah on Saturday.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Union Minister Uma Bharti and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, along with Bihar BJP President Nityanand Rai, Bihar BJP chief Bhupendra Yadav and 5,000 delegations of the OBC morcha from across the country will be participating in this event today.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi speaking about this meet said the upper caste along with the other backward classes and Dalits stood firmly with the party.

“The opposition is desperate because today every section of the society including the forward castes, backward castes and Dalits are standing with the BJP,” said Sushil Kumar Modi, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar.

The principal opposition in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has taken a dig at the national convention of the BJP claiming that party which claimed to do politics rising above caste and religion has been forced to organise meeting of the backward caste to woo them ahead of the elections.RJD spokesperson and legislator Shakti Singh Yadav said that the BJP may try hard to dent the vote bank of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar but will not succeed as their voters remained firmly behind them.

“OBC morcha meet of the BJP will have no impact. Our voters are completely cemented with us. The BJP stands exposed by organising the caste based convention,” said Shakti Singh Yadav, RJD spokesperson.
