The extremely severe cyclonic storm Amphan has now turned into a super cyclonic storm and is spiralling towards Indian shores, prompting the West Bengal and Odisha governments to start evacuating people from vulnerable areas.
The super cyclonic storm is only the second over the Bay of Bengal in two decades. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 37 teams in the coastal areas of Bengal and Odisha. Amphan is expected to make landfall on West Bengal coast on May 20 as an extremely severe cyclonic storm.

12:43 pm: IMD has issued a warning to suspend all fishing activity in West Bengal and Odisha till May 20 in the wake of super cyclone Amphan.
12:30 pm: Amphan cyclone is expected to make landfall on the West Bengal coast in the afternoon of May 20 between Digha in West Bengal and Hatia island in Bangladesh as an extremely severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds ranging up to 195 kmph.
12.28 pm: People create a temporary fence along the coast in Tajpur.
