Maharashtra coronavirus numbers are on the rise but it hasn’t stopped the game of politics which is being played behind the curtains. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s meeting at ‘Matoshree’ on Monday night is being looked at as Pawar’s efforts to make the chief minister change his style of functioning.
The urgent meeting has also raised concern among many leaders of the Maharashtra coalition about the stability of the state government. Finally Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who was present at the meeting, had to tweet clarify that the government is safe.
“Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray met at Matoshree and held discussions over one and half hours. Some people are spreading news about stability of the (state) government, but don’t worry government is stable and strong,” Sanjay Raut said in the tweet.
‘Don’t worry’, Sanjay Raut assured in his first tweet but his second tweet went on to raise questions whether on efforts to destabilise the government. Taking dig at BJP, Raut said, “Research for the vaccine to destabilise the government is on. All these efforts will boomerang.”
Sources said that Sharad Pawar and Sanjay Raut met at Pawar’s residence before going over to Matoshree. As per sources, they had reports that some MVA MLAs are being approached by the Opposition party to destabilise the Thackeray government. The two leaders then decided to apprise the chief minister about the reports.
Sources said many MLAs have raised complaints about CM Uddhav Thackeray being incommunicado at times, which might be a reason for discontent among sections of the MLAs. On the other hand, the Maharashtra government is under attack from Centre as well as BJP’s state unit for not being able to control the coronavirus pandemic in the state, especially in Mumbai.
