The historic Charminar and Mecca Masjid of Hyderabad wore a deserted look on the last Friday of Ramzan due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. The Charminar area is marked as a red zone.
The congregational of Juma-tul-Vida prayers on Friday was held with a small gathering at the Jama Masjid due to the coronavirus induced lockdown.
Hyderabad City Police chief Anjini Kumar and his men camped at Charminar and the old city area ensuring the lockdown enforcement. The significant ‘Jagne ki rat’ or ‘Shab-i-Qadr’ also witnessed a calm night with people keeping themselves locked inside their houses and following rituals at home.
Charminar was the first mosque after the city was founded in 1591 CE. Seven years later, Jama Masjid, the first congregational mosque was constructed, while, the Mecca Masjid joined these two in 1694.
Historians say that for the last four centuries, these three iconic structures have been witnessing Eid celebrations, and, only during the Spanish influenza and cholera outbreak, did the historic structures wear a deserted look, just like they do today.
Meanwhile, top city clerics have asked the Muslim community to observe Eid in their home and follow government guidelines.
