Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the first wave of floods hit Assam which left many villages submerged.

Following Cyclone Amphan in Bengal and Odisha and torrential rainfall in northeast for over 48 hours, many rivers in the state are overflowing.

On Friday morning, a portion of the PWD road near Kampur area in Assam’s Nagaon district was washed away by flood waters of the Borpani river.

Many villages and several hectares of crop land in the area were submerged under water.

Many villages were submerged in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts due to flooding of the Ronganadi river.

Over 90 people had died and more than 5 million people affected in floods in Assam last year.
