Bihar polls may have online voting, parties will have to change campaigning style: Dy CM Sushil Modi

As Bihar Assembly elections are due by the end of this year, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said on Tuesday that there was a strong possibility that elections in the state may see online voting in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sushil Modi said he was expecting a change in the manner of voting with voters not having to stand in queues at the polling booths but casting their votes digitally, sitting at home.

With Covid-19 crisis looming over the state, Sushil Modi said the possibility of political parties hiring helicopters and organising massive public meetings during the election campaigning to seek votes was unlikely.

Sushil Modi said all the political parties in the state will have to change their style of campaigning in the post-Covid-19 era.

The BJP leader said during Bihar elections, he saw the possibility of political parties reaching out to the voters through audio and video conferencing.

He said political parties may also use the electronic medium like television and mobile phones to connect with the voters. Sushil Modi said during assembly elections, door to door campaigning would also be a mode of reaching out to the voters.

It may be mentioned Assembly elections in Bihar are due in October-November but with Covid-19 crisis, it is not clear whether the elections would be held on time or not.
