The Madhya Pradesh health department on Monday withdrew an order issued on May 15 that said that people exhibiting any of 21 symptoms be referred and admitted at dedicated Covid-19 hospitals in the state.
The order had become controversial after it was questioned by the opposition and health experts who felt that sending Covid-19 suspects to Covid dedicated hospitals would lead to further spread of the virus.
On May 18, Principal Secretary, Health, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai wrote to all collectors and CMHOs apprising them of the order issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) asking them to refer people exhibiting 21 symptoms to dedicated Covid hospitals.
The 21 symptoms included in the earlier order mentioned fever, dry cough, sore throat and breathlessness and added rashes, blackening of the skin, pain in shoulders, muscles, cough with mucus, cold, swelling in thigh muscles and anxiety. The health department did not clarify from where it sourced the list of added symptoms.
The health department had stated that it had been reported that a large number of people were turned away from Covid centres and not sent to dedicated covid hospitals on exhibiting signs such as fever, dry cough or breathlessness.
The department said not sending the patients to dedicated covid hospitals, led to complications among patients.
