Two more trains, carrying migrant workers, will leave from Kerala for Bhubaneswar and Patna on Saturday.
The first train carrying 1,140 migrants, stranded in Kerala, left from Aluva station for Bhubaneswar on Friday night.
On Saturday, two more trains, with migrant workers stranded in Kerala, will leave for their home.
Earlier, Kerala had demanded special non-stop trains for migrant workers to their home states. Around four lakh migrant workers from Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and Uttar Pradesh are currently stationed in 20,000 relief camps in the state.
The Railways have started the evacuation of migrant workers from states since Friday.
“The passengers were screened after registration and transported from various destinations to Aluva railway station by police. The state government provided food kits and water for all passengers,” K. Karthick, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural division told Indiatoday.in.
According to Karthick, the social distancing norms were followed while transporting the passengers to the railway station.
Kerala Agriculture Minister VS Sunil Kumar had supervised arrangements for the evacuation of migrant labourers.
“Two more trains will operate today – one for Patna and other for Bhubaneswar. More trains will operate in the coming days. Many passengers thanked state government for the facilities provided to them during lock down,” VS Sunilkumar told Indiatoday.in.
Before leaving the relief camps, police briefed the migrant workers about the procedures to be followed during their travel and made elaborate arrangements for transporting them from to the railway station.
