Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said his government is ready for the challenge of providing for incoming migrants. Speaking at E-agenda AajTak event, Yogi Adityanath said his government will take care of all needs of the incoming migrants including their testing, quarantine, food and also employment.
“We are ready for incoming migrants. A train is coming from Nasik today. We will screen them, test them and if they are negative for Covid-19, we will place them under home quarantine and provide food for them. Not only that, we will ensure they all get employment,” Yogi Adityanath.
Being the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh is the biggest source of migrant workers in the country. During the lockdown, the UP government’s helpline numbers have been flooded with distress calls from the migrants. A number of them were seen to walking back home fearing an uncertain future in the wake of coronavirus lockdown.
Responding to the reports, Yogi Adityanath appealed to the migrant workers not to foot back home. He said the state is in talks with other state governments to ensure that the migrants from the state get adequate help. “We appeal people that they should not walk on foot to reach their home,” he said.
“We have appointed a nodal officer for each state to prepare a list of migrants from UP from these states. If the respective states help us, well and good. if they don’t, we will make the necessary arrangements for the migrants in those states on our own,” he said.
