Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is facing an uphill battle with the Covid-19 pandemic. While ensuring that the transmission of the disease is stopped, the UP government is also ensuring that its citizens do not suffer due to the nationwide lockdown.
Speaking at the Aaj Tak e-Agenda conclave, Yogi Adityanath explained how his government has ensured the wellbeing of students stuck in Rajasthan’s Kota as well as farmers and migrant labour during these times.
“We have successfully brought back our students from Kota who had gone there to prepare for different competitive exams. They have all been put under quarantine. There were about 15,000 students from various districts in Prayagraj, we have been able to successfully bring them back,” he said.
The chief minister also explained how Uttar Pradesh has ensured that farmers do not suffer due to the lockdown. “We have provided relief to farmers in our state by providing them with all the equipment. 98 per cent of the crop has been harvested already. The farmers in our state are taking their produce to the procurement centres. Companies have been asked to also visit fields to procure crops. We are ensuring that they get the MSP for their crop,” he said.
“If the standing crop has been destroyed due to rain and hail, we have asked officials to provide a report within 48 hours and relief will be provided. Sufficient food is available in the state. We have already provided foodgrain to 18 crore people twice. The third round of distribution was started from May 1,” the UP CM added.Yogi Adityanath also explained how the state is preparing to bring its people who have been working as migrant workers in other states back.
“We have demanded a special train. The first train of migrants from Nasik will reach today. From tomorrow, four trains will reach from Gujarat, Haryana and other states. All our people will be kept in quarantine centres. We will provide food and also wages for them. Yeh aapda hai aur sarkaar ka dayitva banta hai ki wo apne nagrikon ke saath khade rahe (this is a time of crisis and it is the duty of the government to stand with its people)” Yogi Adityanath said.
“We appeal people that they should not walk on foot to reach their home,” he said.
