Commenting on the rising cases associated with the Tablighi Jamaat gathering in India, WHO has said that there are always risks associated with such gatherings in the midst of a major epidemic.

Responding to India Today TV’s question during an interaction, WHO Executive Director Dr Mike Ryan said, “We have been working very-very closely with faith-based organisations from all over the world, including from Islamic tradition. We are also continuing to develop guidance, specifically for the holy month of Ramadan, and are working through our eastern-Mediterranean regional office to be able to advise governments and religious institutions, on how best to manage the risk associated with such holy events.”

The global health body has cautioned that it’s very important to not profile Covid-19 along religious, ethnic or racial lines.
