Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state government is considering to start a permit system for those who have to enter the state from outside after the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It will be very difficult for us if 50,000 people return to the state in a single day. We do not have enough quarantine facilities for these many people. So, the state government is considering to start a permit system for those who have to enter the state after lockdown ends.”
“We have to permit them to enter the state in a systematic way. We want to regulate the inflow of the people to the state. For a temporary purpose, we may require an inner line permit kind of system even for the permanent resident of Assam,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam minister also said the state government will launch a website for it from April 8 or April 9, where the people who want to enter the state will have to register.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also appealed to people of the state to give their suggestions for it.
Currently, there are four north-eastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur — where the outsiders need an inner line permit to visit.
