While the entire country has been put under lockdown, the entire eastern part of Pune is facing a stricter lockdown from April 7, as there are 37 positive Covid-19 cases in the area.

This is why people from Nana Peth, Gadital, Maharishi Nagar, Kondhwa and large parts of the old Pune city are witnessing a higher intensity lockdown. Many of these areas have been sealed completely by the PMC.

Explaining the reason behind stricter restrictions on movement during lockdown in some areas of Pune, the municipal commissioner said people are unnecessarily venturing out on roads and added that it could lead to further spike in positive Covid-19 cases.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad appealed to the citizens of the city to remain inside for next 10 to 12 days as positive cases are likely to increase drastically over the next few days.

With rising cases, Pune’s Naidu Hospital is finding it difficult to take in more Covid-19 patients and authorities have started shifting patients under quarantine to other hospitals.
