Andhra Pradesh was given Rs 2,352 crores by the Centre under the provisions of 14th Finance Commission funds, Revenue Deficit grants, and Disaster Management funds, claimed the TDP. The opposition party in Andhra Pradesh alleged that additional funds and resources were also given to the state government to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic but “despite such generous provisioning of funds and resources, the AP government is politicizing the distribution of these to the people.”
“Instead of using its village volunteer network, the Rs 1,000 announced by the Centre is being given by MPTC candidates as money specifically given by the AP government led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy. The money is being marketed as payment sponsored by the Andhra government and these money-distribution drives are organized like election campaigns, surrounded by dozens of people. The beneficiaries are specifically reminded that chief minister has granted this money and that they must vote for the YSR Congress Party in the oncoming local elections,” alleged the TDP led by former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The state is scheduled to hold local body polls which were put on hold due by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in light of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
TDP has also alleged that neither masks are being worn nor physical distancing practiced in Andhra Pradesh during the distribution of these relief funds by the ruling party leaders. There have also been cases of ruling party politicians taking from the district medical health officer (DMHO) most of the N-95 masks being supplied to public hospitals. The government must take note of these excesses and ensure that money and rations are transferred transparently and without the need for crowds,” demanded the TDP.There have also been cases of ruling party politicians taking from the district medical health officer (DMHO) most of the N-95 masks being supplied to public hospitals.
