Coronavirus in India: Bangalore police starts confiscating vehicles for lockdown violation

Police authorities in Bengaluru have begun confiscating vehicles of commuters who are found on roads without a valid reason.

On Wednesday, police in the city seized 6,321 two-wheelers, 227 three-wheelers and 304 four-wheelers. All commuters were preliminarily found wandering in the city without a valid reason.

Police also instructed people to walk to the nearest grocery shop and reduce vehicle use. Ideally, one or two members from a house should step out for groceries and essentials shopping.Bengaluru police authorities now plan to give out medical emergency passes to every police station. At least 200 passes will be handed out to each station so the locals can commute for medical emergencies.

The pass is valid for 12 hours.

Commenting on the issue on April 1, DGP Karnataka tweeted: “This is not an April Fool’s prank. Two/four-wheelers are banned from use till the April 14. We will SEIZE your vehicle if you CEASE to ignore this lockdown regulation.”
