India has recorded 5,609 coronavirus cases in a 24-hour period, Union Health Ministry data showed this morning, with 132 deaths reported in the same period. This takes the total number of cases in the country to 1.12 lakh, with 3,435 deaths linked to the virus. This is the second consecutive 24-hour period in which over 5,000 new COVID-19 cases have been detected. Government data also showed a marginal increase in the recovery rate from 39.62 on Wednesday morning to 40.31 per cent today; a total of 45,300 people have recovered from the illness so far. There are 63,624 active cases as of this morning. Domestic flight and rail services have been allowed to gradually resume as the government looks to bring the country out of lockdown. Globally, the number of COVID-19 cases has crossed the five-million mark, with the number of deaths having crossed 3.25 lakh.
